Life on the Bubble isn’t easy! Just ask Indiana, Seton Hall, and UNC! All three teams had a chance to increase their stock. All did the exact opposite. They weren’t alone in suffering losses - Virginia was upset by NC State and Alabama lost at Arkansas. The lone Bubble Watch winner - your St. Bonaventure Bonnies!
See below for a solid Thursday slate of games to pay attention to. We’ll return Friday morning with a recap of Thursday’s games and a look ahead at the weekend’s most important Bubble Watch games.
Winners:
St. Bonaventure (beat Davidson 56-53): The Bonnies helped solidify their resume completing the back-to-back sweep of Davidson. St. Bonaventure (12-3, 10-3) also stayed tied with VCU for first place in the Atlantic 10.
Losers:
Indiana (lost to Rutgers 74-63): The Hoosiers got off to a hot start against homesteading Rutgers. Then, went ice cold. Check that frigid cold. Rutgers went on a 55-20 run at one point and won comfortably by 11. Indiana’s next game - home Saturday to Michigan. Gut check time for Archie Miller’s squad.
UNC (lost to Marquette 83-70): The Tar Heels scheduled a game last week on short notice against Northeastern and won. They did the same against Marquette. And lost. Marquette jumped out to a 45-29 halftime and never looked back in their signature win of the season. This makes UNC’s Saturday home game against Florida State more critical.
Seton Hall (lost to Butler 61-52): The Pirates were one of the Last Four Byes according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi Latest Bracketology. A second-straight loss, this time to Butler, will not help their resume. They get a week to stew on this loss before they face resurgent UConn (First Four Out) in what is now a huge game on March 3.
Thursday’s Bubble Watch Games: Stanford/Oregon; Wichita State/SMU; Western Kentucky/Houston; Boise State/San Diego State; and Minnesota/Northwestern
