It was one of the biggest games in recent NFL history:
Tampa at New England.
Tom Brady's return to the place where he won a bunch of Super Bowls.
Brady vs. Belichick the (likely) final showdown.
Admittedly, the game didn't really live up to the hype, as Tampa held on for a 19-17 win, in a game which neither team played all that well in terrible weather conditions. Brady finished 22 of 43 passing, largely upstaged by rookie Mac Jones who tossed for two touchdowns.
Still, once the result went final - no one really cared, and everyone wanted to see what would happen on the field.
First, there was the Brady-Belichick hug at mid-field. And well, it went about as well as you could imagine. And when we say "as well as you could imagine" what we actually mean is, "awkward bump in with your ex, at a mutual friend's wedding."
Now, from an even less flattering angle.
Still, the fireworks didn't necessarily end once the game went final, and instead spilled into the postgame media availability.
As you can imagine, Bill Belichick was asked about Brady's return. And as you can imagine, he didn't have much to say about it.
Say this for Belichick, win or lose, with a rookie or the GOAT, he stays on brand.
And that brand: He isn't answering your dumb question about coaching against Tom Brady. You know, the guy who won him a bunch of Super Bowls. And guy who took Belichick from "fired Cleveland Browns coach" to "the greatest who has ever done it."
Ultimately it isn't surprising though and I guess we should just enjoy the moment.
As Michelle Tafoya said in the postgame - this very well might be the last time we see Brady play a game at Foxborough. And admit it, that has you a little choked up.
Well, assuming you're not Bill Belichick of course.
