How The Bubble Turns!

What a difference a few games make! Seton Hall was solidly in the field two weeks ago. Now the Pirates have lost three straight games and have fallen to The Last Four In status in Joe Lunardi’s ESPN Bracketology, which is now updated daily.

Who were Wednesday night’s winners and losers? Take a read below…

We will be back Friday morning with a look at the weekend’s important Bubble Watch games.

Editor’s Note: Stanford (14-11, 10-9, NCAA NET 64) has a chance at a resume-enhancing win against USC in Los Angeles. This post will be updated in the morning. The Cardinal game at USC tipped at 10:30 pm EST.

Winners:

Syracuse (beat Clemson 64-54): The Orange still has some work to do in the ACC Tournament, but they kept themselves off the win the conference tournament or else list with this win. Syracuse ended the regular season with a 15-8 (9-7) mark. They don’t play again until the ACC Tournament.

Wichita State (beat Tulane 78-70): With this road win, the Shockers (14-4, 10-2) have positioned themselves to claim the AAC regular-season crown with a win Saturday against USF. This will be a bit of a shocker, only because Houston (20-3, 13-3) is ranked so high and one of the nation's elite teams.

Colorado State (beat New Mexico 87-73): The Rams (17-4, 14-3) never trailed and assured themselves of at least staying in a tie for first with San Diego State (who played UNLV late Wednesday) in the Mountain West standings. They close the season Friday at Nevada.

UConn (beat Seton Hall 69-58): The Huskies all but clinched their first NCAA Tournament berth in five years with this road win. UConn (13-6, 10-6) also clinched the three-seed in next week’s Big East Tournament.

Losers:

Seton Hall (lost to UConn 69-58): Seton Hall (13-11, 10-8) was in the Last Four In category, but that could change for the worse after their third loss in a row. The Pirates play at St. John’s looking to end that skid on Saturday.

Minnesota (lost to Penn State 84-65): The Golden Gophers have at least been consistent. That is, consistently losing games away from The Barn. This loss at Penn State means they head to the Big 10 Tournament without a road win this season. That’s not how you earn an NCAA Tournament Berth.

Thursday’s Bubble Watch Games: The only game with Bubble Watch implications is Michigan State at Michigan. Another resume-enhancing opportunity for Sparty.
